Masterson Method

How can we work together?

Lessons, Postural Training

Bodywork is a beautiful way to practice reciprocity, to say thank you to your horse for everything he or she gives to you! It can also help regulate the nervous system and improve posture and performance during whatever fun activities and sports you do together. Even Olympic riding teams often work and travel with bodyworkers to help their horses perform at their best and stay balanced in their minds and bodies.

I see bodywork as a co-creation between me and the horse. My intent is to help facilitate healing and the release of tension that is no longer serving the body or the mind. Many modalities work on or do something to the horse - active stretching, pushing into hard muscles to help them soften - these things can be beneficial and I will use them when the horse asks, but they are different from what I typically do.

I work with the horse to release tension through gentle touch and movement through a relaxed range of motion to improve mobility, wellbeing, and performance. By bringing awareness to areas of tension in muscles, fascia, and other soft tissue, while staying under the horse’s brace response, the horse is able to let go of mental and physical restrictions.

Together, we will blend healthy movement, feel, and horsemanship. When these things come together, balance, partnership, and clear communication lead us back to profound joy and fun with our horses. Working with your horse, whether on the ground or in the saddle should feel good, physically and mentally, for both horse and human. Sometimes we forget that it’s supposed to be fun!

I am committed to rekindling the deeply spiritual connection with the horse while remaining rooted in horsemanship and healthy movement. You certainly can do one without the other, but not here! Without horsemanship, you sacrifice safety and clear communication. Without connection and true partnership, you just have obedience, and there are plenty of others offering that!

Connection in motion

Lessons, Postural Training

Think back to the first time you met a horse - can you remember?

Maybe it was the first time you sat on one, the first time you groomed one, or the first time you smelled that scent - you know the one. What did you think? If you’re anything like me, probably nothing at all - you just felt profound joy, love, and wonder!

Somewhere along the line, many of us have lost the wonder, become fearful, and gotten stuck in techniques, rules, and methods. We isolate our hand, our leg, our seat without realizing we’re becoming more and more disjointed and disconnected when we narrow our focus on one element of ourselves and forget the rest. In turn, our horses either learn to tune out the noise or become hyper reactive to it.

You have many options when choosing someone to work with you and your horse(s). If you are longing for a journey - one in which you connect with your horse by coming back to yourself, I want to work with you.

PHYSiCAL REHABILITATION AND POSTuRAL IMPROVEMENT

I often work with my own horses in a blended way, so I want to offer that experience to my friends and the greater community!

Each session is unique, but as an example, I may start with some in-hand work (possibly with the Back on Track blanket) to see how the horse is feeling, then do some bodywork to help release tension and restrictions, followed by a short ride that promotes good posture and feels great to the horse. Sessions often conclude with a brief Bemer session.
